Overview

Refurbished in 2005, the sleek River Empress offers guests the opportunity to enjoy intimate 7- to 14-night cruises through the Austria, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, and Slovakia along the Danube, Maine, and Rhine Rivers. With a glass elevator transporting guests between the ship’s four decks, panoramic restaurants, and 24-hour coffee bar, the River Empress is one of the most inviting ways to experience Europe. On all Uniworld river cruises in Europe, guests enjoy a true destination-focused experience, with one complimentary shore excursion per person at each unforgettable stop along the way.

Dining

As on all of Uniworld’s ships in Europe, the River Empress offers complimentary wine, beer, and sodas with dinner, bottled water, gourmet coffee, and optional al fresco dining. The Restaurant onboard the River Empress is lined with picturesque windows to provide a first-hand view of the unfolding scenery. The Restaurant features open seating and boasts fine place settings, extravagant locally-inspired cuisine, and selections from various other regions.

Cabins

Each of the River Empress’ 63 cabins has a river-view and is equipped with a vanity and make-up mirror, generous built-in closets, a hair dryer, a safe, individual air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, and a flat screen TV. The River Empress’ cabins are complete with hotel-style bedding, 100% Egyptian cotton linens, European comforters and private bathrooms including thick cotton towels, aromatherapy bath products, and plush terry cloth robes. Suites are approximately 214 square feet and feature additional in-cabin refrigerators, slippers, sparkling wine, and fresh fruit.

Entertainment

The Europa Lounge is one hot-spot entertainment venue onboard the River Empress. It features floor-to-ceiling windows, a dance floor, and a bar and provides the perfect location to relax and recount stories from the day. The Patio Lounge, Sky Lounge, and Club Lounge are additional inviting options, with email stations, games, a library, live performances, and more. At each stop along the way, Uniworld provides bicycles for complimentary checkout, providing an alternative to exploration by vehicle or foot.

Kids

Passengers under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult who is 21 or over. Uniworld notes that most young children do not enjoy the Uniworld experience, and though they are allowed onboard, there are no special activities or arrangements to accommodate them. Uniworld does offer “family cruises” on select itineraries during the Summer months.

Dress onboard is typically resort casual, with the exception of a few formal events which require coat and tie for men and cocktail attire for women.

Gratuity / Tipping

On Uniworld’s ships in Europe, there is a suggested 2-3 euro per day, per person for the local guide, and 1-2 euro for the driver. At the end of each trip there are two envelopes, one for the crew and the other for the tour manager. Uniworld’s suggestion for tips at the end of the cruise is 3 euro for the tour manager and 10 euro for the crew, per person, per day. Only cash is accepted as tips.
